The Ottawa Senators’ team has been inconsistent in their recent play, but one constant has been the exceptional level of play from captain Brady Tkachuk. Tkachuk has been dominant on the stat sheet recently, setting and tying some team and league records in the process.
Brady Tkachuk’s Record-Breaking Run
Tkachuk seems transformed ever since being outplayed by his brother Matthew at home. The Senators fell 6-0 to the Florida Panthers on April 4th in what was their most embarrassing loss of the season.
They were outclassed in every aspect of that game, a performance so poor it’s one you would “burn the tape.”
The team has somewhat bounced back since that game, but they haven’t been overpowering by any means. However, this has not been the case for the team’s captain. This stretch has arguably been the best of Brady’s career, even if his points aren’t off the charts.
Brady Tkachuk, Most Hits in an NHL Game
There has been some controversy about whether Tkachuk actually set the record for most hits in an NHL game. Depending on the source, Brady Tkachuk is either ranked first all-time or second behind Zdeno Chara.
According to some websites and experts, Zdeno Chara had a 17-hit game during his time with the New York Islanders. However, the official NHL website does not record Chara’s 17-hit game.
According to the NHL’s official all-time statistics, Brady Tkachuk holds the record for the most hits in an NHL game.
Tkachuk was clearly channeling his frustration from the previous game as this matchup against the Devils was the Senators’ first since their loss to Florida.
So, depending on how you view the record, Tkachuk is either first or second all-time in terms of hits thrown in a single game. Regardless of his ranking, it shouldn’t detract from what was a historic performance from the captain.
Brady Tkachuk, Tied for Most Shots All-Time by an Ottawa Senator
Just a week after setting the NHL all-time high for hits in a game, Brady Tkachuk was again making headlines in the record books.
This record was set just days ago when the Ottawa Senators defeated the Montreal Canadiens at home in the team’s final game of the season at the CTC.
Brady Tkachuk continued to be a man on a mission in this game, finishing with three points (two goals, one assist) in a 5-4 shootout win. It’s no surprise Brady scored two goals after taking a whopping 12 shots on net.
The Senators as a team finished with 44 shots. That alone is a significant number for a single game. The remarkable part is that Brady Tkachuk took about one out of every four shots for the team that night (27%).
The 12 shots on goal in a game tied the now four-way record. Tkachuk is responsible for three of these four record-matching games. Jason York is the only other player in the history of the Ottawa Senators with 12 shots on goal in a game.
Tkachuk achieved this milestone in three separate seasons: the first time was on 28/03/2019 against the Florida Panthers in a 5-2 loss, the second time on 25/01/2022 against the Buffalo Sabres in a 5-0 win, and most recently a few days ago in the Sens’ win over Montreal.
Brady Tkachuk’s Great Play Since Panthers Loss
In the six games played following the Senators’ loss to the Florida Panthers, Brady Tkachuk has been outstanding. Prior to the game against the New York Rangers, Brady Tkachuk led the team in each of the following categories:
- Goals (4), leading by 2
- Points (7), leading by 1
- Shots (36), leading by 21
- Hits (38), leading by 17
- Scoring Chances Created (34), leading by 8
- High Danger Chances Created (14), leading by 5
To say Brady Tkachuk has been leading by example would be an understatement. He has shown the fans that he is emotionally invested and committed to this team.
In what has been a disappointing and painful season, fans can take some pride in knowing that their captain has not given up on the team or the fan base.
