Elias Pettersson brock boeser trade rumours Ottawa Senators Vancouver Canucks

Pettersson, Boeser Trade Rumours. Could The Senators Be A Perfect Match?

Both the Ottawa Senators and the Vancouver Canucks have found themselves involved in trade rumours.

Ottawa Senators Vancouver Canucks Potential Trade Partners?

This is nothing new for Vancouver, as they have spent countless weeks dominating the headlines due to the ongoing J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson drama.

So far, the season for Ottawa has to be viewed as a win. The Senators were hoping to finally get back into the playoffs this season, and although they are still in a very close race, they have positioned themselves quite nicely.

As of today, the Senators sit in third place in the Atlantic Division behind the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers.

However, this position will be in jeopardy on Tuesday night, as the Tampa Bay Lightning will be suiting up against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Regardless, Ottawa currently holds a position of power in the East. Essentially, they have played well enough to control their own destiny.

Two big wins over the weekend against Toronto and Utah have the group feeling good about their game.

With the results the team has been able to achieve so far, they have done their part in proving they deserve additional support.

Now, it’s time for Steve Staios to hold up his end of the bargain and seek external reinforcements to bolster the lineup.

Ottawa Senators Trade Targets

Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard that Ottawa is looking to add a forward as well. There is a clear need for a top-six winger to complement Tim Stützle—specifically, a finisher. This is where the Vancouver Canucks come into play.

Unlike Ottawa, this season has been a total disaster for Vancouver. After overachieving last season, the Canucks have taken a huge step back and currently find themselves outside the playoff picture.

As time passes, the Calgary Flames’ lead over them in the playoff race continues to grow. At this point, the Canucks’ playoff chances are truly in jeopardy.

If this trend continues, the Canucks could find themselves moving on from multiple pieces of their current NHL roster.

Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller Trade Rumours

Obviously, one of Elias Pettersson or J.T. Miller is expected to be traded, but there may be even more turnover out west.

Brock Boeser Trade Rumours

One name that has surfaced in trade rumours recently is Brock Boeser. Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects reported on the news, stating the following:

In terms of fit, Brock Boeser checks all the boxes for the Ottawa Senators. He is coming off a 2023-24 season where he scored 40 goals and 73 points, but he has slowed down this season, posting 16 goals and 33 points in 42 games.

Boeser has consistently been a 20-25 goal scorer throughout his career.

Although he has a reputation for being injury-prone, he has actually played at least 70 games in each of the past three seasons and is on pace for a similar total this year.

At 27 years old, he fits within the competitive window of the Ottawa Senators organization.

The biggest concern for the Canucks is committing to a long-term extension with Boeser, but any potential deal would likely take him only to the tail end of his prime.

He is signed to a contract with a $6.65 million AAV until the end of this season. While a raise isn’t out of the question, it’s unlikely to be significantly higher than his current salary—unless Boeser is grossly overpricing himself.

Brock Boeser Ottawa Senators Trade

The idea of placing Boeser, a true sniper, on a line with Tim Stützle seems ideal on paper. He is also a reliable trigger man on the power play, another area where the Senators desperately need improvement.

Additionally, Boeser has connections to Travis Green and Nolan Baumgartner, who coached him throughout his first four seasons in the NHL. Under their guidance, Boeser put up impressive offensive numbers:

Boeser’s stats with Travis Green as head coach:

  • 62 games – 55 points
  • 69 games – 56 points
  • 57 games – 45 points
  • 56 games – 49 points

We’ve seen this fit work before—who’s to say it can’t work again? This move makes a lot of sense for both sides. If Steve Staios can pull off a trade without giving up too much, it could solve a lot of the Senators’ problems.

Determining a trade package is difficult, and Boeser’s value will depend on whether an extension is part of the deal. If an extension is in place, Vancouver will likely seek a return equivalent to a first-round pick.

That doesn’t necessarily mean a first-round pick itself, but something of similar value. For Ottawa, that likely means including a top forward prospect—perhaps someone like Stephen Halliday or Blake Montgomery.

That prospect price might make some Senators fans nervous, but it’s probably where Vancouver would start negotiations.

Additional picks or roster players could be involved to make the deal work, but that’s likely the baseline.

Vancouver Elias Pettersson Trade Rumours

Another name linked to the Senators is Elias Pettersson. Pettersson is one of the key players involved in Vancouver’s ongoing turmoil, which has led to his name surfacing in trade rumors.

David Pagnotta reported that the Senators could be a team to watch in the Pettersson sweepstakes. He mentioned that Josh Norris would be the primary piece heading back to Vancouver in any deal.

The reason I left this report for last is that it feels far more unlikely.

It’s hard to imagine the two teams working out a trade for a player of Pettersson’s caliber, and until more reports emerge, I wouldn’t put too much stock into the speculation.

That said, it would certainly be an exciting move. Will it happen? I doubt it. But crazier things have happened—just look at Mikko Rantanen almost ending up with the Hurricanes. So who really knows?

What do you think about the Senators potentially trading for Brock Boeser or Elias Pettersson?

Is this a move you’d like to see happen, or is it too risky for a Senators team that has been playing well lately? Let me know in the comments!

Agreed that a top six winger would help. My concern depending on who the Sens would trade could disrupt the vibes in the room.

    1. It’s definitely something to think about. In the case of Boeser I’d imagine Perron would be the salary moved out, obviously with other assets as well. Not anything against Perron, but he hasn’t been around the team a whole lot because of a couple of reasons. I’m sure they love him, but I doubt it would affect the overall chemistry too much.

As for Pettersson, it sounds like Norris would be the guy heading the other way. In that scenario, I could 100% see the chemistry in the locker room suffer. But that said I don’t really see them moving on from Norris for Pettersson. That deal seems less likely in my opinion.

A couple of days ago, I was 95% no to trading for EP40. Today, it’s more like 50/50. If Petey is Eichel like elite level, then pull the trigger knowing the risks (just like Vegas) and hope it brings a cup (just like Vegas). Due diligence is important. Has his skating slowed down due to his previous injury? Does he want to be in Ottawa (no more debrincat types)?
