Ridly Greig is regarded as the best prospect currently in the Senators system. He is a high-end talent who has the potential to be a real contributor at the NHL level. This past season he split his time between the NHL with the Ottawa Senators and the AHL with the Belleville Senators. With the talent, work ethic, and confidence Ridly has, the sky is the limit.

Ridly Greigs’ 2022/2023 Stats
Ridly Greigs’ season was quite impressive at both the NHL and AHL levels. Greig played a total of 59 games last season split between Belleville and Ottawa. With the Belleville Sens, Ridly Greig put up 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points in 39 games.
In Ottawa, Ridly was able to score 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points in 20 games. As a 20-year-old, Ridly impressed at the professional level. Greig also had very impressive advanced metrics at the NHL level. The line of himself, Alex DeBrincat, and Claude Giroux were analytical darlings.
Greigs’ Play style
Ridly Greig has been known as a pest of a player since his days in junior with the Wheat Kings. Greig plays the game on the edge, and loves to get under the skin of his opponents. But he isn’t just a guy who can go out and frustrate opponents. He also has a skill game that he uses to put up some pretty impressive point totals. One of his flashiest plays as a Senator came in pre-season action where Greig showed off his hands against the Winnipeg Jets.
Impressive NHL Sample
As I was saying, Ridly Greig showed very well with Ottawa. Greig showed that he has the skill and determination to make an impact in the NHL. The biggest knock on Ridly in past seasons is his size or lack thereof. He is listed at 6’0, 183lbs according to NHL.com. Greig has been able to bulk up over the past year to a point where his size may no longer be a concern for the NHL’s physicality.

If Greig can use his bigger size to carry his play style to the pro level, he could make an impact as soon as this season.
What Should Fans Expect From Greig Long-Term
When looking at the Sens prospect pool, Greig is in an interesting position compared to others. The general consensus is that he has the highest upside of all Senators’ prospects. He is one of only a few players that I could see having a large impact at the NHL level. While he is still young in his pro career, he has shown that he is very close, if not ready for a big NHL role.
I wouldn’t expect Greig to be a guy who will be a point-per-game scorer at the NHL level. But I could see a world where he could score between 60-70 points while playing on one or both special teams. Not to mention, he will be a player that other teams absolutely hate playing against.

Based on the Ottawa Senators’ long-term projection, I could see Greig starting on the 3rd line while working his way up to the top 6 when Giroux is well past his prime or retired.
Where Will Greig Play This Upcoming Season
Greig is a player that I believe will make the Ottawa Senators out of training camp this season. He will have to earn his spot in the NHL, but with what he showed this season I expect him to make the team. If he does start the season in Belleville, I will be looking for him to dominate the American League.
If Greig doesn’t make the NHL team out of camp, I would expect him to play at least 20-25 games with the Ottawa Senators. Being the high-end prospect Greig is, the Sens would not be in their best interest to give him low minutes in a fourth-line role. Which is why he may end up playing in Belleville.
