Some new Sens News has come out over the past couple of days. Michael Andlauer has been approved to purchase the Ottawa Senators which marks the end of the ownership saga, and he wasted no time making his mark. Anton Forsberg also spoke about where his knee health stands, and his excitement to get back in the Ottawa crease. In this article, all the latest Sens news will broken down and discussed.
Andlauer Hire Sean Tierney
Michael Andlauer wasted no time addressing the Ottawa Senators organizational management needs. Sean Tierney will be joining Ottawa as the first ever full-time analytics member. Tierney most recently worked with the company Sportlogiq as their Senior Director Of Analytics and Pro Services.
Some fans may be familiar with advanced statistics player charts. I have used them in many articles to break down the finer parts of a player’s game. Sean Tierney is an expert in this department. His career has been to identify and read different statistical trends for more under-the-radar players. He is the owner of the website chartinghockey.ca where he creates visually appealing charts breaking down player’s advanced statistics.
However, Michael Andlauer and Sean Tierney’s relationship extends into their past with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Tierney worked under Michael Andlauer in Hamilton from the 2017-2021 seasons as their Director of Analytics.
Hopefully, this is the first move involved in modernizing the Senators front office. The team is well overdue for an official analytics department and Sean is an excellent first hire. With more available data around players, hopefully, the team will be able to improve their pro-scouting moving forward.
Although not rumoured anywhere, I wonder if this makes an Andlauer, Staios reunion more likely. For months the two have been re-linked to each other. With the keys in Andlauer’s hands, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Staios hired by Ottawa in some capacity over the coming weeks/months.
Anton Forsberg Feels Healthy Again
After going down with a double MCL tear, goaltender Anton Forsberg seems to be ready for action. Forsberg has stated that he is feeling “100%”, and doesn’t think about his injuries when playing. This was extremely good news to hear as a Sens fan considering how severe the original injuries looked. If Forsberg doesn’t have any long-lasting physical or mental hurdles to overcome, I am much more confident with Ottawa’s current goaltending tandem.
Forsberg also made sure to mention that he was excited to share the crease with Joonas Korpisalo once again. As some may know, Forsberg and Korpisalo played with each other in the Blue Jackets system with the Lake Eerie Monsters. For more on that, check out this article.
Andlauer Looks To Build Relationships With Senators Alumni
I previously discussed Andlauer’s intent to re-involve Alfredsson in the Senators organization. But he isn’t stopping with Alfie, it sounds as though he is ready to re-build bridges with former Senators. A tweet from user onlysenators discussed Andlauer upgrading the current Senators alumni box.
Mentioning that Andlauer intends to bring more alumni into the CTC is great news for fans. This was a serious problem with the former Sens ownership, and a fresh start will hopefully mend some relationships. Perhaps we will even see some alumni with an interest in joining the team’s management or coaching staff in some capacity.
