Today it was officially announced that the Senators have relieved Assistant GM Trent Mann of his duties. This news has raised eyebrows among members of the Senators’ community for several reasons. One is that this news was not foreshadowed leading up to the off-season. The other is that the quotes from members of the team (Pierre Dorion) seem underwhelming regarding Mann’s contributions to the Sens.
Questionable Press Release
The official announcement of the Mann firing was announced by the Senators with Pierre Dorion giving a statement on Mann’s tenure with Ottawa. Dorion was quoted as saying “We’re thankful for Trent’s contributions to the Senators and wish him the best going forward.”
This statement from Dorion seemed insignificant for a member of the team who had served as long as Mann had. Mann had been with the Senators since the start of the 2016/2017 season. This has spurred speculation amongst the community as to whether or not there could be something deeper going on behind the scenes.
Troy Mann’s Rocky Finish With The Senators
Trent was not the only member of the Mann family to have been released from the Senators. His brother Troy Mann, former head coach of the Belleville Senators, was also abruptly terminated this year. Allegations of Mann potentially leaking information on the Ottawa Senators’ systems were raised. If untrue, the Senators could be in a poor situation with Troy Mann from a legal standpoint.
Enter the newly fired Trent Mann, and the Senators could be facing a lawsuit from one or both of the brothers. Reading between the lines with Trent Mann it seems as though he too left on bad terms with the team. While this is speculation, the evidence seems to be showing this as the case.
Trent Mann’s Fluent Situation
As the reports keep coming out I will have new information regarding this ongoing situation. As of right now, all that is officially known is that both brothers have been terminated. With the tones and nature of the announcements, however, it seems more likely than not that this is not the end of the Mann’s with Ottawa.
